Character Requirement
Character Requirement
All applicants and family members included in the visa must be of 'good character'.
In your 485 application, you will be asked to state any criminal conduct you have been involved in. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
crimes involving children
-
immigration detention
-
war crimes
-
people smuggling
You will be asked to share details and the time frames.
Once the application has been submitted, you may be then asked for a:
1. Character Statutory Declaration
2. Form 80 Personal Particulars for Character Assessment
Police Clearance Certificate
You may also be asked to provide a police clearance for your time in Australia. This document is easy to get, but can take up to 1 month to receive in the post (though it is usually provided in under 2 weeks).
In addition, after you submit the application, you may also be asked for:
-
a police clearance for every country you have lived in for more than 1 year. Expect this if you have indicated a criminal record of any kind.
and/or
-
a military certificate - this may be requested at the time of application, so if you have served in any military for more than 1 year, be prepared.
You may also be asked for Letter(s) of Good Conduct from employers
